Manager Brad Norman had another monster cycle, and while I realize that isn't exactly newsworthy, I wanted to add the name Brad Norman to my column so when Brad Norman vainly searches this document for his own name, his device's "Find" feature will show an inflated number of hits. Also putting some impressive skills on display this cycle was IWA Legend Terrence Boyd, who scored back-to-back King of the Ring victories! He's in very good company: the earliest such occurrence we have on record was when Lewis Podlaszewski retained the honor in the April 1998 cycle. A little less than two years later, during the February 2000 cycle, Nicholas Ferguson held on to the title. It wasn't until the April 2009 cycle that someone repeated the, uh, repeat feat; that someone was manager Zach Gargus. Anthony Rodriguez added his name to the list in the March 2010 cycle, Steven M. Shotliff in the January 2012 cycle, Dennis Mooney during the October 2012 cycle, Anthony Dudick in the February 2014 cycle, Jamie Reed in the May 2014 cycle, Eugene Quintana during the August 2016 cycle, and Gedo in the Winter 2017 cycle. In 2016, Rich Reilly retained the crown in the March cycle, again in the September cycle, and yet again in the December cycle! The August 2009 cycle saw Jonathan Akers holding the title for a fourth consecutive round, and it was the same story for Matt Yunick in the May 2018 cycle. But the all-time King of the King of the Ring would have to be manager Michael Eaves: not only have his wrestlers worn the crown on two dozen occasions, but he also retained the title in the August 2013 cycle, held it a third straight time in the Summer 2007 cycle, and held it a fourth straight time in the April 2013 cycle!
Honorable mention this round goes to manager Ralph Meyers, who continues to dominate in not just the DXL, but the IWA at large with The Treetures -- the only two wrestlers on his roster. Jack Widowmaker secured both the Jade Federation and Elite belts in an encore performance of the September 2020 cycle. He also won the Metropolitan title that cycle, and would have held it this time if the DXL had again been in the top six!
