JOHNNY B SAYS
Three of manager Michael Drake's wrestlers ended in an unbreakable tie for the World Championship! This is only the third such occurrence in our 35-year history. The first time was in the August 1999 cycle, when manager Paul Low of Maryland led Semi-Detached (EGL), PB/ANC: Johnny Reb (KSL), and PB/CC: Danny Boy O'Day (RJL) to a draw. Then, in the October 2001 cycle, SL: Formidable Enemy (RCL), SL: Mythical Madness (BRL), and SL: League Champ (LNL) had to share the glory, but manager Ryan Henderson of Ohio did not. The only other time the IWA World title was held by more than one wrestler was in the May 2000 cycle, when Jerome Arroyo of California coached both WWW: Detroit Bomber Jake Dyer (GCL) and WWW: Silver King (GXL) to the game's top honor.
Manager Caleb Crawdad set a new record by holding the World Six-man belts for 23 consecutive cycles! Jeff Chambers of Iowa finally called it quits in the Summer 2018 cycle after making it to 22. Will Caleb generously leave the door open for other players to one day experience the thrill of this achievement, or will he selfishly continue his winning streak and spit in the face of the Law of Diminishing Returns? In line with recently updating the names of our regional titles to more modern ones, the IWA Asiatic title is now the Asian title. The term "Asiatic" is used more in science than in sports these days, and while it (mostly) takes place inside a ring, professional wrestling simply isn't sweet enough to be considered scientific.
Also being updated this cycle are the leagues which compete for the Asian and other specialty titles. With the return of the International title, we felt some changes were in order; for example, European-themed EPW, the United Nations League, and both leagues with "global" in their names (the GCL and the GWL) will compete for the International belt. The formerly-International HAL, an Asian-themed league, will compete for the more suitable Asian title. Check our website or the page included with this issue for the updated info, and decide if a change of scenery is in your future!
More than a year ago, before his wrestler won the top prize and became the IWA's Phoenix Champion at Imagimania 34, manager Trevor Riley suggested that we organize a massive vacation for any and all overworked athletes at some point. We've finally reached that point, and those athletes will soon reach their destination: Hawaii!
Imagimania 35 features 20 leisurely-paced Hawaiian Beach Rumbles, culminating in a winners-only battle royal with the grand prize of an engraved championship belt! Trevor learned a few things about arranging such events in the course of his duties as commissioner of the MvG Sports Louisiana Purchase Ligue, which holds all its battle royals on Waikiki Beach as an homage to the IWA's Waikiki Beach Rumble from years ago.
